Summer in St. Louis is always an exciting time. This August, when you’re looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy the area, consider checking out one of these top events happening in or around St. Louis.
1. Archeology Day
When: Aug. 5, 2017
Where: Cahokia Mounds
Whether you’re a budding archeologist or you’re simply fascinated by history, head out Cahokia Mounds on August 5 to celebrate Archeology Day. The event is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. While you’re there, you can see ancient craft demonstrations, tour the excavation site, watch a spear-throwing contest, learn more about archaeological methods, see how soil screening and artifact washing work, enjoy plenty of good food and refreshments, and more.
2. Moonlight Ramble
When: Aug. 5, 2017
Where: Busch Stadium Parking Lot C
Take a bike ride under the stars and moon during the Moonlight Ramble, the country’s longest running nighttime bike ride. Choose between the short ride, which is 9.5 miles, and the long ride, which is 18.5 miles. Then dress up in wacky costume, and decorate your bike with the best lights you can find. The festivities start at 9 p.m. with live entertainment, a vendor village, and food trucks. When you’re done riding the course, come back and enjoy the family-friendly after-party that includes more music, food, and fun.
3. St. Louis World’s Fair Heritage Festival
When: Aug. 18-20, 2017
Where: World’s Fair Pavilion
The three-day St. Louis World’s Fair Heritage Festival pays tribute to the original St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904. Stop by the main stage to check out some of the hot music acts, browse through the artist’s village’s offerings, or test out your skills in the backyard games area. When you get hungry, Restaurant’s Row features over 20 restaurants and 15 food trucks that are sure to offer something everyone will love. There’s also a kid’s section, Ferris wheel, and historic experience demonstration.
4. Festival of the Little Hills
When: Aug. 18-20, 2017
Where: Frontier Park
If you love craft shows, you won’t want to miss Festival of the Little Hills. With more than 300 vendors from 30 states, this festival is one of the largest and most popular in the area. You’ll find art, jewelry, clothing, holiday decorations, and more. However, shopping isn’t the only activity available. There’s also live entertainment, food vendors, and children’s activities.
5. Festival of Nations
When: Aug. 26-27, 2017
Where: Tower Grove Park
Come travel the world without leaving St. Louis at the Festival of Nations. This free event offers music, food, and entertainment from countries around the globe. Head to the International Food Court, and taste flavorful delicacies from Ethiopia, Bosnia, Brazil, and more. Then stop by the World Bazaar and shop for Israeli jewelry, Mexican glassware, and Indian saris.
