Over the last few years, St. Louis has exploded with different Mexican restaurants scattered throughout the city. From authentic recipes to a modern-day twist to those classic items, it’s here where you’ll definitely find any type of Mexican food. While there are so many great contenders for you to satisfy your Mexican craving at, below we’ve compiled a list of some of the places where you should start.
Chava’s
From the endless chips and fresh salsa to the 10 flavors of margaritas to choose from, there isn’t anything negative about this Mexican restaurant. We also like the fact that their menu is short and sweet. Offering tacos, a fajita platter, burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, and a few more combinations, it’s here where you can choose quickly what you want to eat. While everything on the menu is beyond delicious, we do recommend the vegetable quesadilla. Filled with fresh carrots, zucchini, green beans, onions, baby corn, and red, yellow, and green peppers, the flavor is out of this world!
La Vallesana
Upon walking up to this restaurant, you’ll be met with traditional Mexican décor both inside and out. One of our favorite aspects of La Vallesana is their outdoor patio. It’s here where you can watch passersby while feasting on tacos al pastor. This mouth-watering dish features smoked pork, grilled pineapple, onion, cilantro — all wrapped into corn tortillas and topped with your choice of red or green salsa. If pork isn’t your thing, we recommend the burrito with spicy chorizo or the torta sandwich, both are equally as filling and amazing. To complete your meal here, try their homemade ice cream or paletas.
Milagro Modern Mexican
Boasting Southwestern décor, Milagro Modern Mexican is the perfect place to go if you’re craving something different. While offering some traditional Mexican dishes, this restaurant also offers unique dishes. Fan favorites include roast chicken which is smothered in a mole poblano, mahi mahi with mole verde, and salmon topped with mango salsa. Featuring creative presentations, Milagro Modern Mexican does have more simple dishes including Huitlacoche and quesadillas. On top of all of the delicious food, they also serve top-shelf margaritas, all shaken with agave nectar and freshly squeezed limes.
Nachomama’s
Featuring the city’s best guacamole with tricolor chips, it’s no wonder why this Tex-Mex restaurant is quickly becoming a favorite among locals. Specializing in burritos, quesadillas, and beans, Nachomama’s is really known for their nacho grande where you can choose from steak, chicken, veggie, or shrimp. This restaurant also serves as a fast food joint, so if you’re in a hurry, you can quickly fulfill your Mexican craving here!
